Please mark your calendars! There will be a Public Information Centre for the Bowmanville Marsh Habitat Restoration Project, Phase 1 - Aquatic Habitat Restoration held next week at Bobby C’s in Ward 3.
The Central Lake Ontario Conservation (CLOCA) invites you to join staff to discuss Phase 1 - Aquatic Habitat Restoration in Bowmanville Marsh. The information centre will be held on Thursday, July 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the upstairs room at Bobby C’s Dockside Restaurant, 70 Darlington Road, Bowmanville, ON.
The Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnership Program administered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada has approved the Aquatic Habitat Restoration Project to be eligible for $50,000 in matching funding.
As part of the funding agreement a detailed plan of the restoration project must be submitted and CLOCA would like the public’s assistance in reviewing CLOCA’s progress to date. Your input is very important and will help CLOCA finalize the plan for this important restoration project. This initial project will be the first in a series of projects aimed at improving the overall health of Bowmanville Marsh as recommended by the Durham Region Coastal Wetland Monitoring Project. The long-term goal of Phase 1 is to enhance the sustainability and ongoing productivity of the recreational fishery within Bowmanville Marsh. This marsh is a 33-hectare Provincially Significant Coastal Wetland located on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Municipality of Clarington within the 66 ha Bowmanville/Westside Conservation Area, owned and managed by Central Lake Ontario Conservation.
The Public Information Centre (PIC) will provide information on how Phase 1 of the Aquatic Habitat Restoration will be implemented, its impact to the community and benefits to protecting and enhancing the natural resources of this Provincially Significant Wetland. If you would like more information regarding this project or the public information centre please contact Mr. Ian Kelsey, Aquatic Biologist with Central Lake Ontario Conservation at 905-579-0411, ext. 143 or email: ikelsey@cloca.com.
