Stargate SG-1 - Tau’ri - Daniel Jackson.
Daniel Jackson is a member of SG-1. He is an archaeologist and a linguist, and responsible for cracking the code to first activate the Stargate. He is often the one tasked with solving the mysteries of alien writings and artifacts, found in SG-1’s travel to other worlds.
He is also a student of mythology and ancient cultures, and often gets to play diplomat in encounters with alien civilizations and displaced human colonies across the galaxy.
Daniel Jackson can sometimes be awkward, or even socially inept, but he is a driven, intelligent, invaluable member of the Stargate program.
He is close friends with Samantha Carter, who often understand him when others do not. He is also good friends with Teal’c, even if it took him a little while to accept his role in Sha’re’s fate. Daniel’s friendship with Jack O’Neill is deep, but complicated, due to their often quite different take on things.
Daniel Jackson is the civilian on the team, and this means he often sees situations differently than his more military minded colleagues.
Daniel is born in 1965, and his birthday is on July 8. His parents names are Claire and Melburn Jackson, and they were killed in an accident when Daniel was eight years old.
Daniel worked as an apprentice with Dr. David Jordan before the Stargate project, and were there romantically involved for a time with Sarah Gardened, who later became host to the Goa’uld Osiris.
Daniel’s nontraditional theories and his belief that the great pyramids of Egypt were landing platforms for alien spacecraft, meant he was ridiculed by the academic community. Eventually, Dr. Catherine Langford gave him his chance to prove his theories were, indeed, true.
During the first mission to Abydos, together with Jack O’Neill and Ferretti, Daniel met and married Sha’re (called Shau’ri in the movie). Sha’re was given as a gift to Daniel, and she helped him learn how to speak ancient Egyptian, something he only knew from writing before.
He fell in love with Sha’re, and stayed there when the others went back to Earth. After living for one year on Abydos, the Stargate was unburied, and a new team - containing among others Jack O’Neill, Ferretti, and Samantha Carter - came through. Not long after, the Goa’uld Apophis came and took Sha’re. She was made a host to Apophis’s queen Amaunet. Because of this, Daniel Jackson returned with Jack O’Neill and the others, and joined SG-1, in order to search for his wife.
Sha’re was later killed - by Teal’c when Amaunet threatened to kill Daniel Jackson - and Daniel considered leaving SG-1. He ended up staying on the team, though, at first to search for Sha’re’s child, Shifu.
This search lead Daniel to the planet Kheb, where he got his first exposure to the Ancients, and began learning about ascension. This helped him later, when he would otherwise have died from a lethal dose of radiation while saving millions of lives on the planet Langara. Instead the Ancient Oma Desala came to him in a vision and offered him the knowledge to ascend, which he eventually agreed to do.
After being ascended for about a year, Daniel realized he could not live as the Ancients, who did not permit any intervention, not even to save his friends against the threat from Anubis. He was allowed to descend, and again joined SG-1.
