The programme focuses on how the Legal Ombudsman has called on the government to consider how to help thousands of consumers who have nowhere to turn if their will was poorly written or if they’ve been ripped off by the service provider. Buying a will is fraught with risk and uncertainty according to his latest report. Wills can be prepared by anyone in principle and research suggests some 180,000 wills each year are being written by non-lawyers. The Ombudsman is concerned that this leaves consumers exposed. Jane discusses the advantages of wills written by a solicitor v wills downloaded off the internet.
