kintsukureine asked:

can you please post a playlist for a newbie of the opera music? :p your blog rocks by the way ;)

hannibalsmusic answered:

I’m an opera newbie myself, so for once I might be able to give good advice.

First, I have an opera tag.

But I think the best way to learn to appreciate opera is to sit through one from beginning to end. Try one of those videos (between parentheses the subtitles language) :

Mozart, Don Giovanni (eng)

Verdi, La Traviata (english, french, russian, german)

Gluck, Orfeo ed euridice (italian lyrics with english sub) or here the french version without subtitles

Purcell, Dido & Aeneas (no sub)

Puccini, Madama Butterfly (eng, hebr)

Bizet, Carmen (eng)

Monteverdi, L’Orfeo (fr, eng, it, de, esp)

Delibes, Lakmé (eng, rus)

Debussy, Pelleas et Mélisande (eng, fr, it, esp, de)

Rossini, Il barbiere di Siviglia (eng, ita, de, fr, esp)

Gounod, Faust (french)

Berlioz, La Damnation de Faust (english)

Rameau, Hyppolite et Aricie (fr)

Handel, Giulio Cesare in Egitto (fr)

Now here’s the challenge : let’s watch all of them before they are deleted.
