December 11, Attempted long-distance projection
We, cloud professionals, need a weapon to challenge the sky. Finally we got one that reaches the clouds!
I feel the climax is almost here. Hello, this is Sawaguchi!
We conducted experiments that focused on the balloon.
There are many conditions to take care of. It does take time (´・ω・`)
This is going to delay the project… Noooo…
Well,
Let’s leave the subject \(・ω\) of reaching a cloud (/ω・)/ for the moment.
Instead, let’s find a place where clouds appear lower, and try an experimental projection on a real cloud!
Well, well,
The third objective!
C. Equipment…?
We will start with that!
We need to find the right projector anyway, whether we project on lower clouds or get close to clouds by balloon! ( `・ω・´)
We will check how much brightness we need, how far we can project an image,
and how well we can see the images with visual contact!
★Key points for selecting a projector★
—————————————————————————————————————————————————
・Has as much brightness as possible.(To see the image clearly!)
・Can be placed in various positions.(We are not sure how we can place it in the basket of the balloon.)
・Durable for use outside(Can’t be a fragile one.)
・Moderate price to rent(Budget is important.)
—————————————————————————————————————————————————
We researched projectors conforming to these conditions,
and the projector we selected is
Two people can barely carry it… heavy…
A projector with 10,000 lumens!
If we want a brighter one, it can only be placed horizontally
and requires a specialist to deal with it (゚д゚)!
According to the person at the store, we can project 40 meters distance with this 10,000 lumen projector.
I wonder if 40 meters is the maximum distance… ?
We won’t be able to see an image farther than that… ?
To clear these questions, we look for a place more than 40 meters in distance,
and we actually have one place in mind:
Palace Side Building!
Orange circled area is under construction and has white sheet covering like a screen,
so this could be a great projection screen!!!
We called the management office, Mainichi Buildings, immediately,
and got permission to use the space! Thank you very much for your cooperation! (^o^)!
So, today’s experiment is
We’ll check how it projects an image at different distances like those above!!
Using too many extension cords to reach from the outlet to the projector reduces power and the projector shuts down,
but now we are ready to start ><
The experiment description is that we are 20 meters, 40m, 60m, and 80m distance from the wall,
and we will see how far away we can be and still get a clear image to find out how close we should get to the cloud!
well
Experiment result
20m
40m
60m
80m
More than 80m
We can project an image clearly from 80 meters!
If the screen is more than 100 meters away, the image becomes very unclear, but it is still visible!
That means
If we can find a place where clouds are lower than about 100 meters high,
in theory, cloud projection could work!?
!(^o^)!
Well, well,
we completed three objectives today, and the result is
A. Confirmed that an image can be projected on clouds
B. We can get close to clouds by balloon only by vertical motion, but it all depends on the time of year. So we need to find a place where clouds are lower
C. If clouds appear at a height of around 100 meters or below, the projector can reach it
Like that!!
Next we move on to
finding a place where clouds can are lower than around 100 meters,
and projecting an image on to a real natural cloud!
Stay tuned!
