You will need to opt in for beta testing and then you’ll get an invite via email when your account is selected to beta test.
If you get a beta invite, be sure to check on your actual battle.net account and don’t click anything in the email! There are lots of fake alpha/beta invites being sent by scammers, this is a great way to get hacked if you don’t have an authenticator and aren’t paying attention!!!
If you haven’t opted in, log in to your battle.net account and select “Beta Profile Settings” under “Games & Codes”
and opt in to the betas you’re interested in:
I’m not sure if it matters what version of the game you preordered or if you even preordered at all. I know someone who claimed to get an alpha key and he hadn’t even preordered the game yet, so who knows!

While finishing up my quests in Gorgrond, I noticed this dude running around, I think near my Lumber Mill? Anyways, I noticed I could interact with him so I did, and it let me feed him. He ran away after that. I didn’t think anything of it until this morning…
