Items for NY NOW winter 1 – migiwa (multi-purpose bowl)
NYNOW is three weeks away. Now we are choosing which item we shall bring this time. As it is the biggest exhibition in North America, we have to prepare for shipping earlier than the other exhibitions. Imagine how many boxes are sent to the exhibition, and every single box is full of lovely items from all over the world.
One item we are definitely going to introduce this time is ‘migiwa’, which received the Good Design Award 2014.
This iron bowl describes restless waves. It creates a beautiful contrast against the table, reflecting a light. The product carries the time honoured tradition and history of Takaoka Copperware with exceptional quality. After laser-processed at our factory, the products are meticulously hand crafted using technology over four hundred years old. A hammering craftsman beats a thin iron plate by hammer rhythmically piece by piece to form. Hammered finishes give this multi-purpose bowl its distinctive character. Although the product is made of iron, its surface is smooth by being pounded and coated with lacquer.
