Diesel Black Gold’s New Creative Director, Andreas Melbostad

It was announced yesterday that Andreas Melbostad will be taking the helm of Diesel Black Gold as the new creative director. This news comes after it was announced earlier this summer that former creative director Sophia Kokosalaki would be stepping down from the position.

Andreas Melbostad is a Norwegian fashion designer known most widely for his work as the creative mind behind the NYC fashion label Phi, where he has been credited at bringing the “hard-edged eighties vibe” back to fashion and being one of the first to integrate athletic wear into ready-to-wear fashion. PHI, which closed back in 2009 due to the recession, left people praying for the talented Melbostad to be scooped up by another fashion label…However Melbostad, who has been a consulting for Roberto Cavalli, has not held a creative director position since, making yesterday’s news all-the-more exciting!

It will be interesting to see the creative vision that Melbostad will breathe into Diesel Black Gold. If his aesthetic at Phi is able to shine any light on what’s to come at Diesel Black Gold, we can expect fantastic use of leather and an impeccable fit!
