Rehearsal. While reading over my speech before the ceremony there were a rush of things that popped into my mind. The most prominent question was “How did I get here?” One of the moments that immediately came to mind was and continues to be one of the most life changing events of my life. My family moved from Puerto Rico when I was seven with the hopes of new opportunities. During middle school I was selected by the Wight Foundation in Newark, NJ to attend boarding school. At that time I had no concept of what was going on and what boarding school even was. I was just doing my best. I can honestly say being chosen by the Wight Foundation to attend Westtown School in Westtown, PA is one of the single most important moments of my life. It opened my mind in ways that are difficult to explain. I grew and met some of my closest friends. It made me excited to learn and as I said in my speech it made me want to be something more. Thank you to the Wight Foundation and the Westtown community for seeing in me what I could not see in myself at that time. Now it’s time to give back.
