“I’m one of ten children, and it’s always been a struggle financially. My parents didn’t go to college, and only one of my older siblings did. My mom and dad hated that they had to struggle to find ways to buy us clothes for school, but they never wanted me to think that I couldn’t go to college because money was an issue. I’ve always loved math, and now I’m in college studying engineering. There are very few black engineering students, and I’m happy that I can be a good role model for my four younger sisters who look up to me.”
