About Akram Ismail

A published author, Dr. Akram Ismail contributed an article to the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research that discussed ethanol-induced gastric muscosal injuries. Additionally, he helped to co-write an article on protection against alcohol-induced gastric muscosal injuries by nitecapone, which was published in the journal General Pharmacology. Dr. Ismail also promoted medical education while serving as a Clinical Instructor at several educational institutions, including the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey; A. Zaher Teaching Hospital in Saudi Arabia; and the Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. With a focus on gastroenterology, Dr. Akram Ismail completed a fellowship in digestive diseases at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Afterwards, he moved to Leesburg, Florida, where he started his private practice, Professional Gastroenterology & Surgery Associates (PGSA). As President of the clinic, Dr. Akram Ismail upheld the highest standards of patient care and a dedication to bringing innovative techniques and technology to the Florida community. Eventually Dr. Ismail oversaw four locations besides the Leesburg location. The outpatient clinic had offices in Tavares, Clermont, and Lady Lake. In addition to managing the practice, Dr. Akram Ismail also maintained a number of hospital privileges. At Leesburg Regional Medical Center, he served as Chief of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Gastroenterology Department. Dr. Ismail also served as Medical Director of Lake Surgery & Endoscopy Center and EndoSurg Outpatient Center. He supplemented his practice with membership in the American College of Gastroenterology, Florida Medical Society, and the Independent Physicians Association. He also founded Epic Telaradiology, a radiology services provider that includes American board-certified radiologists.
