    Find me on...

A few days ago, I asked if anyone knew of any good stand-alone character modeling programs that had functionality similar to the Sims generator in The Sims game.

Thanks to those of you who took time to respond and give me some suggestions. I did a little further research, and I think I’ve found a very good possibility: DAZ 3D Studio.

Downloading the program is free, and it comes with a couple of starter models and a tiny bit of clothing and some animations. The rest of the content you have to buy, and it looks pretty pricy, which I’m not thrilled about. But over time I may be able to collect enough hair meshes and clothing options and other things to make some use out of it.

For now, I just did a quick self-portrait, since my head is shaved and I didn’t need to pay 20 dollars for the right haircut! The eyebrows are default… Gotta see about getting some eyebrows, I guess.

Also, if anyone uses Poser (which I gather is sort of a popular storyboarding aid software), these Daz models are apparently exportable to Poser.

So, if you’re looking for a decent character modeler, as I was, you might give DAZ a shot. Thanks again to those who offered their advice!
