UN News - Darfur: surging violence reaffirms need for inclusive political dialogue, UN official says

Apparently, this is what the UN Security Council may be concerned about with regard to Sudan and South Sudan.

1) Sudan turning off the oil on August 7th.

2) Why Sudan postponed participation in the Joint Political and Security Mechanism (JPSM) meeting scheduled for July 22 in Addis.

3) Re Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mechanism (JBVMM):
a) when aerial reconnaissance will resume
b) when troops to protect monitors and support staff will be deployed
c) logistical challenges due to the rainy season

4) Receptivity of Sudan and South Sudan to regional efforts to ease tensions:
a) AU/IGAD investigation re claims about rebel support by both countries and if the investigation timeline can stall the oil shut down
b) AU Border Programme’s timeline to determine center line of Safe Demilitarized Border Zone (SDBZ)

5) Access to South Kordofan and Blue Nile to address humanitarian crisis (championed by the US)
