Hanging on a cross near Jesus, this man had done wrong and accepted that he was a sinner. He has repentance in his heart and feared God, honored Jesus. He asked Jesus for a relational favor, to remember him, and Jesus told him that he would be in paradise with him. This man did not participate in any sacraments our ritual things to repent, nor did he follow the law. All he did to receive eternal life was be repentant and be personal with Jesus. God wants a personal relationship with us, not an incense filled ritual. He set the example earlier in the bible with Enoch. He was a man with a good heart and he walked with the Lord, meaning he had a good relationship with God. Enoch never experienced death, he was taken up by God. That foreshadowed what God wants for us to experience now, not that we won’t die, but that eternal life comes from a relationship with him. Enter eternal life today with Jesus Christ.
