THE HULK: From Comics to Movies

Who’s sick of studios constantly switching out actors in sequels? It takes away from the vibe and (for me at least) forces me to reissue myself into the universe the Director is trying to portray on screen. For example; Rhodey in IronMan1+2 are two completely different friends of Tony who just happen to have the same name…

The prime example of this is Bruce Banner/Hulk. Whatever your outlook on the three iterations are, they ARE connected…they have to be in order to make the Avengers movie work. The argument of sequel/reboot isn’t what’s important to me though, it’s the question “who fits the role better”.

Checkout the picture at the top, which is taken straight from the comics. You can see Bruce is a skinny, nerdy, pale skinned - whispy haired man who turns into a brawny (pulpy is the word I keep thinking) green monster.

Bruce: Just look at the faces. While Norton looks most like Banner, I think Bana fit the overall look and feel of the scientist. While Ruffalo doesn’t look anything like him…like…what were they thinking for the Avengers???
Hulk: Take the head of #1 with the detail of #2 on the body of #3. I see that they were trying to put a bit of the actors into the monster with the CGI, but none of them came as close as the first. Also, “Incredible” was the only movie to really get the chaotic nature of him down.

In the end I think they need to just pick one and stick with it. I don’t care who, but continuity is key if they want the “Avengers” to be a lasting success.
