[my] SOUNDTRACK TO COLLEGE:

There are a lot of things that define chapters of our lives. What car we drove, the friends we have, a book we read, the style of clothes, and most certainly (and always) the music we listened to. No one can say “the 80’s” without thinking about those hair-flipping metal bands right?
For me, college was a monumental time in my life where I experienced a great amount of change. Not only did I learn a lot about the history of religion and the inner workings of our society, I also spent a lot of time picking apart my own emotional attachment to different things. It was through all these changes that I needed a certain ambience…a vibe…an environment conducive to the kind of growth I needed.

As out of place as it may seem Kanye West’s “808’s & Heartbreak” created the perfect feeling to take me through the different emotions, and help provide the right feeling for keeping my mind focused on what was in front of me. Sitting in the library with a stack of books, being a hermit in my room writing papers, walking around campus, dealing with girlfriend issues, helping friends through struggles, creating art, or playing video games…the different tracks each provided unique ways for me to escape into seclusion.

It’d be hard for me to pinpoint a specific song that really stuck out. I think at times (depending on the situation) each one was in it’s own right my “favorite”. And while it may not be his most “Yeezy” album, to me it’s a perfect blend of the different sounds music can make.

If you haven’t you should check it out. As for myself, I’m on to new chapters and different albums…
