Damien Hirst’s Mini Cooper, owned by gallerist Charles Saatchi
The “piece” was supposed to be a novelty item auctioned off for charity. Saatchi bought the car and exhibited it, which “enraged” Hirst that it was being shown as a serious “piece”. With so much money on all ends of his work, the question always remains: what is a commercial product and what is the art? I think Saatchi’s “mistake” showed us all it doesn’t really matter, just a car or a piece of art- they are all just millionare’s toys.
