Maybe today is the day
The world will choose to remember
That we do not simply co-exist.
That the people who walk down the streets of our city with us
Are not an obstacle in our way, or a nuisance to acknowledge.
Maybe today is the day
We will not make false judgements by the color of someone’s skin,
Where they work, or where they live,
Or ridicule them for something as shallow as what they happen to be wearing.
Maybe today, we’ll remember
That it was the strangers down the street from us
Who bravely rushed to rescue whatever total strangers were in their reach.
Maybe today we can remember, that we are truly all in it together,
And that we always have been,
And it won’t take another shattering tragedy to starkly remind us again.
Maybe, If we can remember how much we are honestly
A part of one body of mankind,
We can hold onto that truth hard enough to remember it tomorrow,
And every day after,
Healing not only a horrible crisis, and rebuilding a city
But healing mankind itself, and rebuilding our world.

Every time I learn something new, I am more acutely aware of how much else I DON’T know. Furthermore, I continually discover how much MISINFORMATION I thought I knew, as well as realizing how some of my basic ASSUMPTIONS were off-base.
We all do it. We all assume things that we don’t really know, or take something for truth because we were told it was so, without verifying the facts and/or multiple sources.
For instance:
