Scavenganza Challenge #16: Naked Eggs
What happens when you let a raw egg sit in vinegar for a week? For 15 points, let's find out!
Materials:
- Raw egg
- Tall glass
- Vinegar
- Patience
- Your video camera
Method:
- Gently place egg (don't crack it, leave the shell intact) in glass
- Pour Vinegar over egg, until the level of vinegar is about an inch over the egg.
- Leave it for 24 hours
- Change the vinegar (pour the stuff the egg's been soaking in down the kitchen drain, and cover the egg with fresh vinegar)
- Put the glass in a safe place, and leave it for 7 days. Yes, one whole week.
- Patience, Padawan.
- On the eighth day, pour off the vinegar, and rinse the egg.
- Take a video telling us what the egg feels like after its soak, then of you dropping the egg onto the counter from a height of several inches.
BONUS:
Check out the science of it from Steve Spangler, and do one of the Science Fair Connections. Send us a video on that experiment, too, for an additional 7 points.
