Scavenganza Challenge #57: Much Ado About Shakespeare

Image

Well met, Scavenganzers! William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday was in April of this year. Whether you love his plays or not, you have been influenced by them. Here’s a fun fact: if you've ever used the phrases “break the ice,” “catch a cold,” or “love is blind,” you were using sayings invented by the Bard.

In honor of Shakespeare, today’s challenge invites you to present a Shakespearean performance of a non-Shakespeare story. Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Rewrite a story or scene in Shakespearean language. Use all those thees and thous, hithers and thithers, yonders and forsooths. For an excellent example of this, look at William Shakespeare’s Star Wars by Ian Doescher in the Sno-Isle catalog.
  • If you need a little help, use this handy glossary of Shakespearean language.
  • You can adapt whatever story you like for this. A fairy tale, Dr Seuss or another children’s book, or your favorite novel. But not Star Wars
  • Create a video of your team acting out your Shakespearified scene. You should act with great dramatic flair. If you need to use notes, that’s fine, but don’t just read from them.
  • At least two characters must appear “on stage” with speaking parts.
  • There’s a 5-minute maximum limit for this video. Remember, if it’s over 3 minutes, you’ll have to break it into two videos to post to Flickr.

Hark! Methinks this challenge is worth 23 points.
