Police take hamster into ‘protective custody’ after arresting owner
Police in the US took a hamster into 'protective custody,’ after it was found running free in the car of a suspected drunk driver.
Officers in Oregon, pulled over a car in the early hours of Tuesday morning because they believed the driver to be impaired, Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe said.
After a chat with the driver, 27-year-old Nicole Huey, the policemen realised that she was harbouring a hamster on her lap.
She got out of the vehicle, placing her pet on the dashboard, and was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The hamster, whose name is not known, was allowed to roam free inside the vehicle and it took three officers to capture the energetic rodent.
