LALA LIKES: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

I love the X-men series. Those mutants are definitely my fave in the Marvel universe. Who wouldn’t want to be a mutant, anyways. Somehow, everybody felt like a mutant one way or the other. So, it’s no surprise that in the 5th movie outing of the mutie bunch, everybody trooped to the cinemas to have another cinematic take of Prof. X’s and his ragtag misfit friends’ adventure.

I love X-Men First Class, so I am very happy that the latest film is as good as the last one, even better. At first, the plot is seemed simple. It involves the most popular mutant ( ahem, Wolverine, ahem again) to do some time travelling and divert the mutant-killing sentinel future caused by one act of a mutant from the past. However, the more the story progresses, the more it delves into an intelligent and sophisticated direction. This what makes the movie great and also what I love about it. Most will be impressed by the script writing of the film’s writers. They are smart enough to use the continuity of the franchise come up with a script that will present them an opportunity start anew for the franchise. In the latter part of the film, the story went carte blanche yet still made sense. Also, the writers are smart enough to make the film focus more on Jennifer Lawrence’s character more this time. As it should be. Bravo, writers. Bravo.

The cast is campy since it brought the everybody from the both time lines. Nevertheless, the characters were utilized in the film very well since the actors know their characters very well. Hugh Jackman surely aged but he aged well with his Wolverine persona. He really was born for this play the world’s most popular mutant and this film cemented that idea more in the minds of many. It will be hard to find another actor who can replace this guy to play Logan. The 2 Sirs, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, are as always regal as the mutant seniors Professor X and Magneto respectively. Fascinatingly, their characters are direct contrast of their past selves, played by James McAcoy and Michael Fassbender respectively. Fascinatingly, also, that Fassbender doesn’t have a nude scene here. Dang. Peter Dinklage provided a balanced antagonist, but, left no room for development. It’s not Tyrion’s fault, though, as the character must have been written that way. Halle Berry, as a law of nature, is still a goddess in this film amid very short time. I firmly believe that she must be revered as a Hollywood goddess no matter what. And of course, Jennifer Lawrence is a spectacle even more that movie revolves around her ( as it should be). Let it  be known to mankind that JLaw is the New Hollywood. Deal with it, people. Deal with it.

There’s no shortage of action here. Most of the action sequence cleverly choreographed, executed, and shot especially Mystique’s. The special effects are also top notch. My favorite scene is Quicksilver doing his thing in the Pentagon kitchen. It was witty and shot magnificently in new slow mo technology I have never seen in any film before. It kinda reminiscent of The Matrix’s ‘Bullet Time’ in breakthrough sense. It’s also great that his character made a ref shout out to Magneto saying his mom used to know a guy who can manipulate metals. Hehehe, oh, Pietro, some family secrets are best left unknown.

My only complain in this film is that some of the characters’ costume design are so lame (sorry about that, Charles). They looked some straight redneck guy designed. The notable ones are Quicksilver, Blink, and Warpath. They looked like jeje cosplays. And don’t get me started with Ellen Page’s unkempt look. She looked like she was dragged (hehehe, dragged) out from and into her scenes and had no time to shower. Ellen, honey, your'e a lesbian, not a train wreck. Still love you much, though.

Overall, This is one of the best Marvel films up to date. I enjoyed it more than the Avengers and I think it’s better than the Avengers. It’s my second fave Marvel movie next to Captain America: The Winter Soldier… for now. I give it a Mutantastic 9 out of 10.

The moral lesson of the story: Solange Knowles should have been a mutant. If she can beat the hell out of a famous Illuminati, she will definitely have no problem beating the shiznit out of those Sentinels.
