A tale of two cities - downtown, and the rest of JC

Mr. Fulop,

As a new resident of Jersey City Heights, just two doors down from the site of where a 70 year old woman was shot three times in broad daylight in the afternoon, I would like to share my opinion with you about how downtown Jersey City is held to a completely different standard than that of Jersey City Heights.  I live among hard-working people who deserve just as many services that are provided in the downtown section. We deal with overflowing garbage cans on corners that attract rats; we have streets with missing street signs, and just up the block on Franklin and Sherman, there is the Charles E Trefurt School #8 and Franklin Avenue does not have crosswalks, and the bouble yellow line has been faded for years.

Quality of life issues affect a neighborhood. The intersection of Palisade Avenue and 139 is a disgrace.  More attention to traffic detail is paid to any given intersection in downtown.   I haven’t seen a police car on my street in weeks.  The same street where an innocent 70 year old woman was talking to neighbors in front of her home, just blocks from a police precinct. The residents here feel like no one cares, and no one is watching.  I pay my taxes, and I feel like this disconnect from the clean, safe and manicured streets of Downtown is is unfair.  I urge you to consider the city’s issues fairly during your time in office.
