Concerns over Fulop’s pick for public-safety director, James Shea

Dear Mayor Fulop,

I am deeply concerned with your selection of James Shea as Jersey City’s public safety director. His instrumental role in the creation of the stop-and-frisk training program in NYC leads me to believe that stop-and-frisk and/or other racist, targeted public safety strategies will be implemented in our racially diverse Jersey City. Please ensure the residents of Jersey City that this individual will not instate discriminatory, violent practices such as stop-and-frisk in our City and that you will appropriately oversee Mr. Shea’s practices through a community advisory board that has real votes and can hold the system accountable.

Thank you,

Erika Bernabei Middleton
