BeerNews.org has an article (Brewers Unleashed: how a few beer geeks are bringing change at MillerCoors) that talks about the MillerCoors subsidiary Tenth and Blake Beer Company. Though I think it is wonderful that a big beer company is starting to validate the craft brew market, it kind of scares the crap out of me that they are getting into the market. With their money and marketing power they could push out or buy out many of the craft brewers. What happens then when they have no competition and they look to increase profit margins? Slowly we see great beers that this behemoth of a company swallowed being killed off in the name of margins.
Perhaps this is a sign that MillerCoors is changing their ways and looking to focus on quality product rather than massive marketing with the cheapest product. I myself am not one to believe that a tiger can change its stripes, and it will be many years before we see if MillerCoors is truly dedicated to quality product, or if they are just executing a subtle assassination of craft breweries. In the meantime I will fear the worst and hope for the best.
