Nintendo’s first multi-region 3DS cartridge ⊟
A Thanksgiving twist to the Nintendo 3DS’s region-locking! So, yesterday the company announced this odd app, Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre, which releases to various regional eShops on December 2 for $19.99. It also intends to sell a cartridge version at the titular Parisian museum.
There will be two cartridge versions available: one for Japan, and another English edition purportedly for North America, Europe, and Australia. That’s notable because it could indicate 3DS’s region-locking is handled on a cartridge-by-cartridge basis, instead of a general hardware restriction. Of course, none of this matters if Nintendo never allows other multi-region releases – obvi Mona Lisa here knows that, hence the smirk.
