Report: Nintendo to offer “mini-games,” videos on smartphones ⊟

A report from Nikkei (a Japanese paper that is often on point about Nintendo rumors) says Nintendo will unveil its concession to the world of smartphones on Thursday, around when the company is expected to hold its quarterly financial results briefing.

No, Nintendo won’t be publishing its marquee games for iPhones, and you shouldn’t sell your 3DS. According to the paper, Nintendo will offer videos and mini-games to help bring awareness to their products.

It’s not quite “Finally Nintendo is making its games for mobile, doing what they obviously should have done years ago to save their company,” which is good, because that approach is about as smart as it sounds when you say it out loud. This strategy sounds more like what The Pokémon Company has done on iOS with its video and mini-game apps. I’m alright with that!

[Update: Nintendo denies Nikkei’s report and says it has “no plans to offer mini-games on smartphone devices.”]

This great comic, by the way comes from Stephen Maurice Graham – lots of great artwork and comics about games on his Tumblr. I like to think that this strip is like the second part of every Iwata comic!

BUY Nintendo 2DS & 3DS/XL, upcoming games
