Castlevania producer Igarashi leaves Konami ⊟

Koji Igarashi, the lead on all those “Igavania” games I love so much, left Konami this weekend, so he could actually work on some games.

“I’ve decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make — the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well,” he told Polygon.

He’s starting up a small studio, and will be presenting about the Metroidvania games at GDC, where I’m sure we’ll hear more and/or hear his Kickstarter pitch for the first time (I’m guessing there’s a Kickstarter – it makes sense for an old-school game producer popular in the West!)

Konami will continue its focus on Metal Gear and soccer.

Image is… not Igarashi, but comes from the Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin site.
