Retro Game Challenge romhack ruse revealed

Okay dudes, bad news. The enigmatic “arino2011” who has been posting videos of a seemingly translated Retro Game Challenge 2, featuring references to our beloved mascot, has revealed that the project is not an official localization, but, indeed, a fan work.

Xvirus, who also worked on the translation patches Shiren the Wanderer DS 2 and Torneko no Daibouken Advance, told us that he is the one behind the mysterious videos, rather than any official DS publisher.

Shiren and Torneko have been put on an indefinite hiatus as I don’t currently have a translator (they all seem to disappear on me),” Xvirus said. “After watching a video review on CX2, I thought I’d give it a go and, after a few hurdles, found out that it wasn’t too incredibly complicated.” So it is a fan translation project after all!

“Unfortunately,” Xvirus continued, “I can only do so much by myself and as like… 90 percent of the dialogue is in Kansai-ben, I’m at a bit of a loss.”

The potential good news here is that by revealing the project’s status as a (troubled) fan effort, we’re now able to put out a call for translators. If you know Game Center CX and have an eye for Kansai dialect, you could be part of something very important.

VERY. IMPORTANT.
