3DS sales at Wonderswan levels in Japan. This chart (by a Hachimaki poster) compares post-launch sales of various handhelds, including 3DS, DS/Lite, PSP, Game Boy Color/Advance, and Wonderswan, and shows that in its ninth week on the market, the 3DS sold about as well as Bandai’s long-dead handheld did in its ninth week.

Looking at the latest Media Create list (which has the 3DS at 23,038 units), I think the Y axis of this chart is in tens of thousands, so “10.0” refers to 100,000 units. I think. It’s not labeled.

Anyway, we (and Nintendo) can take away two important lessons from these sales numbers – the first being that earthquakes are bad. The second is that if you want to sell systems, you should release more games for them.*
