Flipnote Hatena’s rad comment system
Hatena is doing a spectacular job with providing a global community for Flipnote Studio animators, not just by allowing visitors to watch and rate clips from every region, but by also implementing a convenient Google Translate button for typed messages posted through the site.
Just like any machine translator, the results are far from 100 percent perfect, but it’s better than opening a separate Google Translate window to copy and paste the text.
This feature isn’t compatible with drawn comments left by people watching animations through their DSi, but that’s a trade-off I can live with for two reasons:
- Being able to browse and comment on animations through your DSi is neat and convenient
- You can leave much more creative messages, like sketches with a short message
Which reminds me, Western users need to step their Flipnote commenting game up. I see adorable notes like the one above from Japanese commentors all the time, but most of the messages I see from U.S. users look hella sloppy, like they were left by 9-year-olds:
Buy: U.S. Matte Black and Blue DSi
Import: Japanese Nintendo DSi (White, Black, Pink, Red, Lime Green, Metallic Blue)
