A Link Between Worlds prototype screen ⊟

According to this spirited Iwata Asks, the team working on the latest Zelda game at EAD couldn’t decide whether the mechanic of going into walls would be fun or not. So in something of a huff, assistant director and lead programmer Shiro Mouri made a prototype in one day.

“There’s this other programmer who is usually a really mild-mannered person, but [director Hiromasa] Shikata-san, who had suggested the idea, was so indecisive about it that the programmer got mad and angrily said, ‘I think the idea of entering walls sounds amazing, so what’s wrong with it?!’”

The whole process of development sounds oddly heated as they tell it, with producers constantly exclaiming “We can do that?!”
