Sega’s Uta Kumi 575
Sega’s making a new rhythm game for Vita, due in Japan for 2014. Uta Kumi 575 is a combination music game/word puzzle game, in which players fill in blanks in the scrolling lyrics, which the on-screen Kawaiikochans then sing using Vocaloid tech.
The use of synthesized Japanese speech and Japanese fill-in-the-blank word puzzles means this is unlikely to make it out of Japan. But in Japan, Sega seems to already have its eyes on making a new franchise. There’s already a tie-in iOS app, and there’s already a selection of goods for sale!
This seems like the kind of thing that could either generate massive interest, or sit unloved in a line-free Tokyo Game Show demo booth despite being adorable and fun (Rhythm Thief, looking at you).
I wish one of these procedural song-generating games would come out over here, even in Japanese. I need to import Kuma Uta…
