Some more pictures from the protest. Ume Saami is a highly endangered language, and the fact that other Saami politicians are blocking the final decision that has to be made in order to make the Ume Saami orthography official - which would make it harder for the government and councils to ignore the needs of the Ume Saami, and the revitalisation of the language much more easy - is quite appalling.
While I am South Saami, I support this fight wholeheartedly, not the least because I’m related to many Ume Saami, as people have moved between South and Ume Saami territories since time immemorial.
