Welcome to Nurmijärvi. Cheerful, happy Nurmijärvi. You will have fun!

Actually, since there are seven sad young men in this crest, I’m guessing it’s a reference to the book Seven Brothers by Aleksis Kivi, born in Nurmijärvi. Seven Brothers is a very significant book in Finnish history, but I don’t remember the brothers being so sad. Or being identical thick-necked, blond septuplets.

From Wikipedia: “Nurmijärvi literally means "lawn lake” although the lake that gave the municipality its name was drained in the early 20th century and is now nothing more than some flat fields near the village centre.“

Fair enough, so you can’t have a lawn lake in the picture then. I will give them props for using an a literary motif, but they could have been a little less.. cartoonish? :D

The sad seven brothers were designed by Olof Eriksson in 1954.
