Definitely have a cold

It’s not too bad – so far. I’m hoping that it passes without getting much worse. I’m going to stick with my running workouts unless I get to the point where it feels like I’m pushing myself too hard. To compensate for the energy expended on running I’m going to spend most of the rest of my time in bed.

After deciding on this course of action I found a good Runner’s World article that addresses running with a cold. It says:

David Nieman, Ph.D., who heads the Human Performance Laboratory at Appalachian State University, and has run 58 marathons and ultras, uses the “neck rule.” Symptoms below the neck (chest cold, bronchial infection, body ache) require time off, while symptoms above the neck (runny nose, stuffiness, sneezing) don’t pose a risk to runners continuing workouts.

So I should be good, so long as it doesn’t progress to my chest.
