‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ became famous last year for letting gamers play as a military dog. Now the developers are taking the canine theme to the next level and their latest DLC will replace the normal multiplayer announcer with rapper Snoop Dogg. This will be the first of an ongoing Voice Pack DLCs publisher Activision has planned to add diversity to the game, and presumably milk more money from players.

Narrated by the Doggfather himself, multiplayer actions will abandon the somber tone usually featured in first-person shooters for lines such as: “Squad member active. A brother from another mother”, “Homies out the joint. It’s party time!” and “Rack up points by reaching the enemy portal, you dig?”

Although these lines aren’t written by Snoop, I think developers Infinity Ward managed to capture most of his charm and even “put a bit of ‘Snoopism’ on top,” as the rapper himself admits. “What interested me most about the project is that my voice could be connected with a game that’s so hip, that’s so hood,” Snoop said in the announcement below.

Snoop Dogg is well versed in videogame hook ups, having appeared in three other titles after he made his debut back in 2003 as an unlockable character in ‘True Crime: Streets of L.A.’ Celebrity appearances in videogames weren’t that big at the time, but in recent years they have become almost commonplace. The ‘GTA’ series is mostly to thank for this, with Burt Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson and Ricky Gervais all lending their voices or likeness to characters. The trend culminated in last year’s ‘Beyond: Two Souls’, which integrated Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe as fully motion captured actor-characters.

The Snoop Dogg Voice Pack is priced at $3 (aprox. £1.79) and will be available on Xbox One and Xbox 360 from April 22nd. Maybe it would have been wiser to release it two days earlier, seeing that the DLC comes bundled with a Blunt Force Personalization Pack which enables players to customise their weapons with marijuana leaves.  Release dates for other platforms are yet to be announced.

Happy gaming, keep it hood G…
