CodeAcademy makes learning JavaScript fun and mostly painless

When I was a kid, I learned BASIC from the backs of many a 321 Contact magazine, but I never really went further than that. These days, I sort of know my way around JavaScript in that I can look at it and it doesn’t look like complete gibberish and I can kind of work backwards through existing JavaScript, but I’ve never really gotten around to learning it. But CodeAcademy is a free site that makes learning JavaScript fun and easy… way easier than starting with a giant JS bible.

Right now, JS is the only programming language on the site, but if you’re a web designer or developer, it’s an important one to learn so that you’re not stuck with relying only on HTML and CSS for everything you want to do.

The lessons are pretty simple, and currently CodeAcademy is only offering basic lessons, but they’re promising more advanced courses and a wider variety of languages in the future. For right now, I’m happy with JavaScript. After a few short lessons, the site will ask you to register, but again, it is free, and it’s a damn good way to get into JavaScript.
