Indie director Colin Trevorrow hired to direct Jurassic Park 4

Jurassic Park 4 is officially happening, and the directorial choice is an interesting one. Colin Trevorrow, whose only full length film directing credit up to this point was the 2012 film ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’, based on an old internet meme about a time traveler. So… maybe?

Jurassic Park 4 already has a script by Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. As recently as yesterday, we were wondering why the film had no director when production is slated to begin this year. Some even speculated that Spielberg himself could be eyeing a return to the director’s chair. Spielberg helmed the first two installments before turning the position over to Joe Johnston for Jurassic Park III.

According to Deadline, which got the scoop on Trevorrow’s hiring, the indie director landed the job simply because the studio and filmmakers felt he was a good fit. That’d be the reasoning behind most high-profile hires, no? Trevorrow is apparently a big fan of the original trilogy and Universal and the producers believe he’ll “preserve” the characters and story from them.
