Stallone realizes that his dreams of directing an Edgar Allan Poe biopic may not happen. Wait, what?
In the “that’s news to me” category, Sylvester Stallone yesterday said that he’s always wanted to direct a biopic of author Edgar Allan Poe, but doesn’t think it’ll ever happen because Poe fans would “tear him apart” for what he’d do with it.
The Rambo star recently revealed he’d given up hopes of playing Poe in the project - and now he fears he’ll never complete work on the project because he fears the wrath of the writer and poet’s fans. Stallone has invested years on the script, writing multiple drafts, but he tells America’s GQ magazine, “He (Poe) was like Rocky - he was just incredibly misunderstood… I don’t know if I could ever live up to the hype. "Poe fanatics - I mean in an intellectual sense - they would tear me to pieces. My take is very simple - he’s a misunderstood artist.”
At first I was like >:O and then I was like ??? I wonder how fucking awful Stallone playing Edgar Allan Poe would be… now I’m curious, even though Stallone would literally be the absolute last person on my list of people who should be playing Poe.
