MAN WORLD
Maybe there is nothing to be afraid of. A tiny drink
might do the trick but everywhere I go I’m in a building
and every building was made by man,
even the sidewalk, even the view.—Emily Brandt
Yesterday was the first reading I’ve been to since all this noise has come out about the recent sexual violence in our community. Of all the launches to attend, Man World by Emily Brandt is just right, fitting, horrendously fitting. And I felt us all suffering with these Facts of our community. And I felt us all angry, alive inside our community. No one could not mention it. The truth of these violences is a reality we can no longer remove from our everyday interactions. What a relief, to know the warmth and safety of others. We still have our poems. We still have our language. I have an inch of hope now. I don’t have an inch more.
