Farewell, Tumblr!

Hi everyone.

So first off, I just want to say that I have had so much fun posting here in the last 3-4 years and it’s been really cool being a part of such a unique community. I’ve never had a proper outlet for things like my film reviews, and this has been a fantastic avenue for that. Unfortunately, I am forced to leave Tumblr because I have received so many notices about DCMA violations for random, unnamed posts that I feel like I’d rather preempt the inevitable and leave with fair warning. It’s unfortunate that it has come to this, but I’d rather you hear it all from me instead of going to my domain and suddenly seeing one of those dreadful 404 pages, not knowing where the hell I went. I’m going to try to back up as much of my material as I can, and hopefully in the future I can set up a proper site not hosted by Tumblr, where I will be free to post whatever I want without some random, shadowy litigious company barking up my tree and accusing me of copyright infringement (which, let’s be real, on this site? What a joke). I feel like I’m actually a blog that produces original content, so I have to admit that it bristles to be persecuted like this, and it does make me feel unwelcome.

Anyway, I’m not going to draw this out, but Tumblr has sent me one of those “THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING, WE WILL DELETE YOUR BLOG” emails, and the all caps seemed to be fairly threatening, so I figured it was too much of a pain in the ass for me to continue posting with the knowledge that any time they feel like it, they will be able to just terminate my account and there’s really not a whole lot I can do about it. While I won’t delete my blog myself (I’ll leave it up in case for some reason, it won’t get deleted, and for posterity), but I will no longer be posting any new content (because I don’t really see the point if it will get deleted anyway).

If you have any questions, want to reach out to me directly or stay in touch, feel free to shoot me an email, or add me on Twitter. You can still message me here if you like, and I’ll check it in the next few days if the site is still up. If I am able to move my stuff over to a different platform, I will certainly try to announce it here or on Twitter. I’ll check here periodically in the next few days, but this is, sadly, the end of the road for The Film Fatale. I’m extremely sad about it, and I regret that I won’t be able to post more reviews for you, but my hands are tied and I don’t have much choice. I would much prefer leaving on my own terms, but hey, contrary to what Forrest Gump says, life doesn’t always give you a box of chocolates. Sometimes it hurls you a box of turds.

That said, you have all been wonderful. I’ve enjoyed reading your comments and engaging and celebrating film with you. Maybe I’ll see you all on the flip side.

All right, Mr. DeMille. I’m ready for my close-up.
