So do we dismiss all of the many queer fans who have written about how much Rainbow Direction means to them? Like, those people who were writing to me two days ago? If one’s sexuality is the determining factor of the validity of an opinion, what do we do when people of the same identity argue opposing positions?
Furthermore, why do we keep going back to H/L specific signs? Rainbow Direction is NOT about H/L specific signs—fans already bring signs specifically directed towards the boys (like ‘long hair don’t care). Rainbow Direction is about signs of general lgbt acceptance and support. Like rainbow flags.
What you have essentially told me is that you are not opposed to Rainbow Direction. So thanks. We can move forward and we can all take action to make the 1D fandom a better place for queer fans.
Any more asks conflating Rainbow Direction signs with H/L specific signs will be ignored.
^ This. The first paragraph is perfect. I’ve been lurking for ages, and all this stuff with Rainbow Direction and the bondage bear finally inspired me to make an account.
Rainbow Direction has a wonderful purpose— to promote LGBTQIA visibility and to spread a message of acceptance of One Direction fans who are not straight. For the life of me, I can’t see why in the world anyone who’s queer could have a problem with this (for the record, I’m queer).
Yes, it’s nice for the band to see messages of love and acceptance— sentiments similar to ones Harry himself has expressed many times. But for every time one of the boys sees a message like, “We love you no matter what,” there are countless young fans who see the same message and find that there will be people in their lives who love them no matter what. That’s what is important about this campaign. That kind of message, one of love and acceptance, is invaluable to people who may not have experienced it often, or at all.
People may not agree with all of the signs that are brought to the shows, but queer people attempting to shut down the groundswell of support for acceptance in this oftentimes homophobic fandom baffles me.
And people….please educate yourselves on what rainbow direction is before sending asks like this. Rd has suggested general support posters for people like “you make me strong” and not one of them supports any sort of ship so let’s nip that fallacy in the bud. I’m so sick of seeing people bring up the same stupid shit - do some research and educate yourself on what rainbow direction is if you are so concerned.
