“15 Men React To The Idea Of Taking Their Wife’s Last Name After Marriage”

image

Men believe the family is their domain but when it comes to watching the children or doing chores suddenly it’s not their responsibility

“If hoards of men started taking their wives’ surnames, it would be an unfortunate and perhaps irreversible step towards a matriarchal goddess culture, which blows for guys because those cultures used to routinely kill male infants and treat males like slaves. In a world where there are already very few incentives for men to get legally shackled, this is one slippery slope I wouldn’t want to slide down.” - Ricky, 27

I’M SORRY BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO FEMALE CHILDREN AND WOMEN AROUND THIS WORLD??? OH YES, JUST THAT.

I feel like I need to trigger warn this as “infuriating male opinions”

THIS RAUL THAT THINKS WOMEN DON’T SACRIFICE THEIR LIVES TO SAVE THEIR LOVED ONES. PREGNANCY AND GIVING BIRTH WERE A FUCKING SACRIFICE FOR THE GREATER PART OF HISTORY
FUCK THIS NOT READING FURTHER.

The worst part is, look at the guys’ ages? They’re young. They’re all young fucking people

‘Why get married at all if you don’t want to adopt its sexist traditions?’

Well, yes, to be honest.

And people keep trying to persuade me that people don’t think of marriage in unequal terms of ownership anymore and it doesn’t ~~mean~~ anything. Except, well, it clearly does.

I respect the choices of women who coose to get married, but any man who expects a woman to marry him needs to accept that it has to be a VERY different institution to what it has been in the past in order for it to be an at all fair or reasonable thing to ask her to do.

Frankly, I don’t see why anyone should take anybody else’s name (although the whole merging-names thing is really cute and I completely get THAT). I find the aspect of identity erasure that’s literally going on there deeply disturbing. But anyone with even a little social awareness should be able to see that it’s a bigger sacrifice for women to do it precisely because of the cultural baggage of oppression that comes along with that.

You want to do it as a gesture of love? That’s your business. But anyone who EXPECTS it from their partner is a shitbag.
