Fashion Idol of the Week: Joan Smalls

This Puerto Rican beauty is definitely one of favourite models working today. She’s incredibly elegant (even for a model) and has a warmth to her that is responsible for a lot of her commercial success. Rumour has it Joan Smalls (born Joan Rodriguez) decided to become a model when she saw how much money a model could earn watching the E! Channel (if only it was that easy for the rest of us!), so that she could afford to take care of her family. She’s now realized her dream and was able to buy her father a new pick up truck, a long time goal of hers. She’s definitely rolling in the dough now, dominating Vogue and campaigns for Gucci, Givenchy, Estée Lauder, Cavalli, Stella McCartney, David Yurman and more. Her runway game is huge as well; she’s opened the spring Jason Wu and Yves Saint Laurent shows in New York and Paris and closed for Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier and walked for Anna Sui, Burberry, Prada, Valentino and more.
