According to the Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film’s Celluloid Ceiling report, 2013 marked a dismal year for women in behind-the-scenes jobs on the top 250 grossing movies. Filmmakers with XX chromosomes accounted for only 16 percent of the directors, writers, executive producers, producers, editors, and cinematographers on those films — a drop of 1 percent from 1998. And only 6 percent of the top films last year were helmed by women, down from 9 percent. Other than Kathryn Bigelow, still the only woman to win an Oscar for directing (The Hurt Locker), no female directors come close to the name recognition of Spielberg or Scorsese. The question is: Why?
We may not have all the answers – but it’s just as important to keep asking the question.
Which is to say: Entertainment Weekly magazine and EW.com are both looking for summer edit interns. Find info below – and pay attention, as the requirements to apply for each are slightly different.
Entertainment Weekly published the 100 All-Time Greatest. Being the entertainment addict that I am, I decided what would be more fun than to work my way through each list and watch, listen to, and read until all have been completed. This blog will chronicle my journey and help me keep track on my way to that goal.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY FALL 2015 EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP
Do you stay up late waiting for recaps of Mad Men or Homeland or The Mindy Project to go online? Do you love taking a deep dive into weekend box-office figures? Are you still, in your 20s, completely obsessed with Harry Potter? We’re all entertainment geeks here at EW, so as you might imagine, we’re looking for recent graduates who are passionate about pop culture and well-versed in at least one of the areas we cover (books, music, movies, TV). Daily responsibilities do include some usual entry-level tasks, such as opening mail and maintaining our databases, but a motivated intern can dispatch those in short order and move on to more exciting tasks: writing blog posts and TV recaps, reporting stories, learning our rigorous fact-checking procedures, attending movie screenings, and so on. Interns are completely integrated into daily life at EW—they attend our daily morning editorial meeting and are free to attend the section meetings (TV, movies etc.) if they would like. They are expected to pitch, not just to the ew.com editors but to print editors as well; it’s rare that an intern leaves without a fistful of bylined pieces in the magazine.
This isn’t an internship for someone who thinks they might be interested in entertainment journalism; it’s an internship for someone who lives and breathes pop culture. The ideal candidate will have impeccable research, reporting, and writing skills and will already have completed at least one magazine internship.
WHEN: Fall (August 2015 to January 2016); 40 hours/week at $10/hour

I’m not sure if this is a stroke of genius or a harbinger of the apocalypse. Aw, hell, who cares: at least it’s funny. Entertainment Weekly, the official magazine of receptionists, interrupts their 24/7 coverage of the Twilight Saga movies long enough to devote attention to the Green Lantern.

Entertainment Weekly is looking for an editorial intern in our LA office!
WHO:
EW’s spring editorial internship is open to recent college or J-school graduates who can work a 5-day, 35-hour week. We’re looking for applicants with strong writing and reporting skills who are passionate about pop culture. Internet fluency—GIF-making, an encyclopedic knowledge of memes, etc.—is a plus as well.
WHAT:
The LA editorial intern will contribute to the magazine and website with blog posts, news briefs, interviews, on-the-scene reports, red carpet reporting, photo galleries and recaps. The intern will also assist with transcription and research projects, but the focus will be on writing more than anything else. Some items will be straightforward news stories; others will be more creative, opinion-based pieces. Either way, we’re looking for writing that is clear, factually accurate, and in line with EW’s enthusiastic yet irreverent voice. Interns will be paid $10/hour.

Wet Hot American Summer director David Wain and his co-writer Michael Showalter confirmed they have been seriously thinking about writing a second film set at Camp Firewood.
