All seven home weekend baseball series’ during the 2014 “Tip You Cap To Packard” season are dedicated to honoring a different decade or aspect of Packard Stadium and Sun Devil Baseball’s storied legacy.

As part of the season-long celebration, we are recognizing season-ticket holders whose support through the years has played an integral role in the long-standing success of the program.

Congratulations to this weekend’s Sun Devil Baseball Legacy Supporter, Ron Scott.

As part of our appreciation, Ron will be recognized during Sunday’s game against Washington and will receive commemorative “Tip Your Cap To Packard” official memorabilia.

Q&A with Ron, who has been a season ticket holder since 1982, is a Sun Devil Club member and lives in Glendale:

What is your best Sun Devil Baseball memory?

“All of the great series’ with the U of A back in the 80’s. Two top programs, ASU head coach Jim Brock vs UA head coach Jerry Kindall was something to watch. Those were great teams, great coaches and a great rivalry that continues today. I never, ever missed that series.”

Favorite Sun Devil Player?

“Several players come to mind, including Bob Horner, Paul LoDuca, Ike Davis and even Tim Esmay. I followed all of the player’s careers and being a high school coach, I even knew them during their high school careers. Only the best of the best got to go to ASU and it was great watching them and then following many of them during their pro careers.”

What will you remember most about Packard Stadium?

“My memories of Packard are all about Jim Brock. As a high school coach, Coach Brock was a mentor and friend to all Arizona coaches. He opened up Packard and held many clinics for the kids and always welcomed the coaches to his Coaches Clinics…for free. He was a personal friend to me, and I remember one time, sitting in the stands at West High School watching a regional championship, he told me the story of how Packard stadium came to be. It was an awesome moment for me and I will cherish it always. I’ve been a season ticket holder ever since the stadium was built. I am very pleased that Tim Esmay is the coach at ASU. Played in Arizona, played for Coach Brock, coached with Coach Brock and was with him at the end. The ASU program is in good hands for many years to come with Coach Esmay at the helm.”

Best Omaha Memory?

“I’ve never been to Omaha but I have watched every single game, every single inning, ASU has played there.”

What is the Best Game Played at Packard Stadium?

“For me it will always be ALL the great series’ between the U of A while Coach Brock and Coach Kindall were here. Intense, edge of your seat baseball and we couldn’t get enough. Packard would be packed any time we played the Wildcats from down there. That rivalry, between Brock and Kindall with that competitive drive and their friendship, has yet to be duplicated. Those two coaches did more for high school baseball in the state of Arizona than anyone and what they did will never be forgotten. Coach Brock was, and still is, a legend in this state for all the things he did, not only for ASU, but for amateur baseball throughout the entire state. I will always remember him and I hope you can take the “traditions” of Packard Stadium on to Phoenix Muni. I love Muni and I will be there supporting the 2015 edition of Sun Devil Baseball!!!”
