Sun Devils Serve AND Graduate!

As a member of the Sun Devil Basketball program, our players are often looked upon as role models and examples. Therefore, our team has an obligation to be leaders in our community. We strive to accomplish this by volunteering with various community service organizations around Phoenix. It is our hope that we can give back to our community and usually we walk away from the experience feeling the experience has given more to us then the people we were there to serve.

I am really proud of the service projects our team is consistently participating in and I wanted to share some of those experiences with you. In the last 12 months our team has performed over 200 hours of community service with over 59 combined student athlete appearances.  Some of the highlights of this past year include:

  • Our players have conducted several free youth basketball clinics for the Gilbert Boys & Girls Club, The City of Tempe, The NABC and Ft. McDowell. Children had an opportunity to get coached by our student athletes and work on the fundamentals of the game.
  • Our team volunteered at the Andre House in south Phoenix where they prepared and served free meals to over 350 less fortune people in the community.
  • We worked with the City of Tempe Library on various events they have for children throughout the year.
  • The team spent time at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital visiting, playing and interacting with the children.
  • Our entire team volunteered at the “Kids Zone” at the annual Pat’s Run held in Tempe. Over 10,000 people participated in the event.

These are just a few of the many projects our team is a part of. We continue to work on a weekly basis with various groups and organizations and I am excited about the way our student athletes have embraced their role in the community. I know our new incoming student athletes will be passionate about these opportunities and our returners will continue to make a difference. Sun Devil Basketball will stay connected to our city and continue to give back in every way that we can.

I’m equally proud of the academic success of our programs.  I had the chance to appear on ESPN’s Outside The Lines segment on College Coaches and Academics.  You can view the segment HERE along with a list of our graduates.
