From The Desk Of Herb Sendek
We wrapped up our final week of skill Tuesday. You can see there is not a dry shirt in the bunch! The team worked hard right up to the last second of the last skill. We are extremely happy with the effort and improvement we saw this summer; in the classroom, on the court and in the community. Academically, the team performed well. It is fantastic for our incoming group to have the opportunity to be in summer school and learn their way around campus. And this summer was our most sustained effort in the community. In addition to Andre House, we visited Phoenix Children’s Hospital every Tuesday and I’ll tell you, it was the highlight of our week. Three to four guys went each week and walked away each time appreciative of all they’ve been given, especially their health. A number of our student-athletes coached this summer too, which was especially rewarding for them. Savon’s team even won their league championship! As we wrap up summer school, the team will have a well-deserved small break before the start of the semester.
I hope you’ve had a magnificent summer. I know many of your children and grandchildren have started to trickle back to school, my own included. I look forward to seeing you at the many upcoming Sun Devil events. We will have several opportunities this fall to see the team before we tip on November 14th. Keep following me @HerbSendek on twitter and visit the men’s basketball page often at www.thesundevils.com for feature stories on both our returning and incoming student-athletes. I think you’ll especially enjoy the stories on our future orthopedic surgeon Sai Tummala and returning Senior graduate student Bo Barnes!
Go Devils!
