Straining hummingbird carrying tiny cat with strewn luggage left behind, below hand grasping vine, mural detail with string lights, Grilled Cheese Grill schoolbus, NE Alberta St.
The Grilled Cheese Grill is just plain great. Basic foodcart functionality is there: tasty grilled cheese, nice variety of sandwiches at reasonable prices, prepared reasonably quickly. But then there’s a schoolbus, remodeled inside with schoolbus booth seats around tables on one side and a bar of stools on the other. Heated (nice on a cold rainy day like yesterday), intercom for calling in your order when it’s ready, good music piped in.
All the table surfaces are decorated with photo collages of school portraits from who knows where – the photos span decades, some of them strings of yearly updates of the same kid. Makes for entertaining tablegazing.
But there’s also a fantastic pop-surreal mural across the whole roof of the bus, a sprawling thing full of rambling weirdness and little surprises.
